The Timbuk2 Uptown travel backpack is available in one size and eight color options. The bag’s standout feature is the laptop pouch, which allows you to place your laptop in a compartment worn against your back. This feature will keep your laptop as safe as possible. In fact, the bag’s design makes it very TSA friendly. Simply unzip the back compartment and lay the bag flat, allowing it to pass through the X-ray machine at the airport. You won’t have to worry about digging through your bag and placing your laptop in a separate bin. Once the bag has passed through the x-ray machine you can just zip your pack back up and be on your way. This back section of the bag also offers an additional compartment for a tablet.
The shoulder straps are very easy to adjust and come equipped with a reflective strip, so the wearer will be highly visible at night. The main compartment doesn’t offer any internal pockets, so it’s perfect for securing larger items.
You’ll find a small pouch located at the top of the backpack that can be used for quick access items.
The next compartment is around the same size as the main compartment, but this one features pouches and pockets designed to keep small items organized. You can use this compartment to store your phone charger, batteries, headphones, camera, and other important items.
The front most section features additional pouches and pockets. You’ll also find another quick access compartment.
While the bag is big enough to hold all of your gear and clothes, you’ll notice that all of it is easy to get to. This is a very travel-oriented backpack. This is a mid-sized bag that’s perfect for an overnight business trip or it can get you through a couple of days on the road if you pack light. On the side of the pack you’ll find a handle, which can be used if you want to carry the pack more like a briefcase, however, you’ll still have the straps dangling if you carry it in this manner.
When shopping around for a travel backpack, a laptop compartment may not be your first priority, especially if you’re planning on a long trip abroad. This is a very basic bag. It lacks many of the features you’ll find on bigger, more durable travel packs. But for what it is, this simple, yet sophisticated bag is a good buy for the businessman or woman catching a flight, or for a short weekend vacation.
